What Are Forged Gears?

Forged gears are components used to transmit motion and torque between rotating parts in mechanical systems. They are commonly used in gearboxes, drivetrains, and power transmission equipment.


Typical gear applications include spur gears, helical gears, and gear blanks that are machined to final tooth geometry. Forged gears are often produced as gear blanks and then machined to final tooth geometry based on application requirements.

8620 Alloy Steel
Commonly used for gears that require a hard, wear-resistant surface.

  • designed for carburizing

  • hard outer surface after heat treatment

  • tough internal core


Selecting between 4140 and 8620 depends on whether the gear requires through-section strength or a hardened surface for wear resistance.


How Forged Gears Are Manufactured

We produce forged gear components using hammer forging and press forging, depending on part geometry, tolerances, and production requirements.


Hammer forging is typically used for short- to medium-volume runs and more complex geometries.


Press forging is used when controlled deformation and tighter tolerances are required.
