Forging for
Mining Equipment

Components for Extreme Loads
and Harsh Environments

Milwaukee ForgeTech is a forging supplier for mining equipment, manufacturing custom forged steel components designed to perform in some of the most demanding operating conditions. Mining equipment operates under extreme loads, constant vibration, variable environments, and continuous use, requiring components that deliver strength, durability, and long service life.

We work directly with OEM manufacturers, engineers, and procurement teams to produce forged components that meet performance requirements and support reliable operation in mining applications.

If you have a drawing or specification, send it to us so our team can review your project and recommend the appropriate forging process and material.

Forged Components for Mining Equipment

Mining systems depend on components that can withstand high torque, heavy loads, and harsh environments. Forged steel is commonly selected for these applications because of its structural integrity and resistance to fatigue and impact.

We manufacture forged components used in mining equipment such as:

  • excavators and loaders

  • drilling equipment

  • crushing and material handling systems

  • conveyors and drive systems

  • heavy-duty transport equipment

Common mining components we have forged include:

  • shafts

  • gears

  • couplings

  • hubs

  • flanges

  • structural and irregular components

These parts are produced to meet customer specifications and to perform reliably in demanding conditions.

Why Forging Is Used in Mining Applications

Forging is widely used in mining equipment because it produces components capable of handling extreme mechanical stress and continuous operation.

High strength under load
Forged components are designed to handle heavy loads and high torque without failure.

Resistance to fatigue and repeated stress
Mining equipment operates continuously, and forged components are well suited for parts exposed to repeated loading cycles.

Impact and shock resistance
Forged steel performs well in applications where components are exposed to sudden loads, impacts, and vibration.

Material integrity
The forging process reduces internal defects and improves structural consistency, which is critical in high-risk operating environments.

Materials for Mining Equipment Forgings

Material selection is critical for mining applications, where components must perform under stress and in abrasive environments.

We commonly work with carbon and alloy steels used in heavy-duty applications, including grades such as 4140 and 8620.

These materials can be heat treated to achieve the required strength, toughness, and wear resistance for mining equipment components.

Material selection and heat treatment are determined based on load conditions, wear requirements, and service environment.

Forging Capabilities for Mining Components

We manufacture mining equipment components using multiple forging methods to match part geometry, tolerances, and production requirements.

Press forging
Produces components with strong grain flow and consistent geometry.

Hammer forging
Well suited for complex shapes with strong grain flow and short- to medium-run production.

Our capabilities include:

  • part weights from approximately 2-to-100 pounds

  • short- to medium-volume production

  • custom die design and engineering support

We work closely with customers to ensure each component meets design intent and performance requirements.

Applications in Mining Equipment

Forged components are used throughout mining systems where reliability, toughness, and consistency are critical.

Typical applications include:

  • power transmission systems

  • rotating equipment

  • drive assemblies

  • load-bearing connections

  • structural supports

These components must operate reliably in environments involving heavy loads, abrasive materials, and continuous operation.
